Network technology
What does network technology involve?
Networking devices has become an integral part of our everyday working and private lives. Network technology is the prerequisite for this. The technologies and devices vary depending on the area of application and objective. Roughly speaking, network technology can be divided into hardware for communication or data management.
While routers for reliable WiFi and a stable connection to the Internet as well as Bluetooth for media and more are represented in the private sector, for companies it is more about servers, workstations and storage solutions in general, because large amounts of data often have to be stored and accessed again by many users. We specialise in hardware solutions for servers, for which you can obtain individual components here.
NICs
NICs, which is short for network interface cards, also known as network adapters or network cards, are hardware components that enable computers or servers to communicate with other devices via a network. These cards are installed on the mainboard and are usually connected via a PCI Express slot. A network card is essential for communicating with other devices in a network as it can receive and send data packets.
There are different types of network cards that are suitable for different purposes. Ethernet network adapters are the most commonly used NICs. They support different speeds and offer reliable and fast data transmission. If higher performance is required, for example in data centres, InfiniBand cards are ideal.
Cables, adapters and other network technology
Adapter modules or cables are essential for connecting network cards and other components in the server to other devices. The adapters, also known as transceiver modules, are required if you want to cover greater distances where direct attach cables are not sufficient. The transceiver modules enable the use of optical cables such as fibre optics. Cables and adapters should be selected depending on the protocol and connection of the network card or switch used.
Popular connections are, among others:
- SFP28: Today's standard in server technology, downwards compatible with SFP and SFP+
- QSFP28 / QSFP56: Further development of SFP, which offers higher speeds, backwards compatible with QSFP and QSFP+
- GBIC: Slot for using a DAC or transceiver module with a fibre optic cable
You will also find switches in our range. A network switch forwards data traffic between different network devices. It can perform various functions, such as monitoring network traffic, splitting network segments and detecting network errors.
Used server hardware from the experts
Here in the HaehnleinIT online shop you will find server hardware for your business or for private use. The majority of our products are second-hand goods, which are tested and refurbished by us. This gives you the opportunity to buy components such as RAID controllers, HBAs, NICs and more at a great price without having to compromise on functionality.
At the same time, you contribute to sustainability, as the reuse of hardware reduces electronic waste. In addition, fewer new components need to be produced, which saves resources. Do you have any questions or would you like us to put together a customised solution for your server? Contact us directly via our online shop or give us a call at +49(0)3731 / 16 50 457! We will be happy to assist you.
